Proclaim "Your God reigns!"

How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
"Your God reigns!"
[Isaiah 52:7]

Why do I always get caught up in the compliment in this verse, but never think about the acts of those who are so worthy? Their feet are not beautiful just because they believe the good news, but because they proclaim it. Proclaim cannot possibly have meant to Isaiah what it means to us: who "silently witness" to it. I think he would say that one who "silently proclaims" God's word is an oxymoron. What if a doctor only silently diagnosed a patient? What if a teacher only silently taught her pupils?

So a preacher and a witness must speak out. And he must surely also live the gospel he proclaims, or be known as a hypocrite. God has been moving my heart to proclaim the gospel now for 3 years. I believe it was in 2007 that it began to weigh upon me. Perhaps I should preach barefoot, as I also intend to run barefoot in the future (when it's not too cold). I know the sight of bare feet is odd in this dirty world. I'm also growing a beard. Perhaps, like Samson, the Spirit will come upon me via the hair. All I know is I must wait upon the Spirit, and when he comes, I WILL BE BOLD.

Lord, send your Spirit upon me. Give me also an instructed tongue to know the word that sustains the weary. Awaken me morning by morning to know and seek to hear your word, and move me from complacency to shout it from the street corners, on the campuses, and here in the nation's capital as well. Lord, make your word like a fire in my bones that billows forth and cannot but be seen by all; support my feeble words to strike the hearts of men, inasmuch as they are your word. Ah, Sovereign Lord, praised be your Name in all the earth, for you will thwart the arrogance of men and bring the proud low, surely you will! and you will exalt the humble. Hallelujah to the Son of Man, our King forever Jesus Christ! Amen
