Jonathan's Faith

The story of Jonathan, attacking the garrison of the Philistines with only his armor-bearer, is encouraging to me today.  He says, to the young man,
"Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few."
There are always excuses for not doing the work of God when I lack faith that it is God's work.  Jonathan wasn't certain, either. He said, "IT MAY BE..." meaning there was good reason to believe God would help them, but not certainty.  To go out to battle with the Philistines was taking a serious risk to his life.  What risk is there in going out to talk to people about God?  What risk is there to keep me from the evangelistic mission God sent me to here to do?  The fact that I'm only one man?  It is not hard for the Lord to save by few.  It simply requires faith to give Him the chance.

Today I must go out for evangelism, as my Lord commands, "Go and make disciples of all nations."  It may be that the Lord will work for His kingdom through us.  Lord, grant me the faith of Jonathan.
