Blessed are the poor in spirit

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." [Matthew 5:3]
Thank God that he blesses the poor in spirit. I'm sure I qualify. Sometimes I complain that God didn't give me the aggressive ambition and "killer instinct" that he gave many of my peers. In fact, I covet their gifts most sinfully, esp. the great Ph.D. shepherds and famous pioneers among my fellowship.

But I know that this coveting is the most corrupt and vile part of me, that both God and man cannot bless. And yet, the lack of all those gifts is also a gift. I am poor in spirit, and have always been. I see this in my children as well. Is it something I wish for? Not at all. I wish they didn't have it. I wish we were ambitious go-getters. Praise the Lord for his blessing upon the poor in spirit.
